Barfly is located at 49 Chalk Farm Road in London and is recognised as one of the finest new music venues in the Capital. Barfly claims that their ethos is to support the world’s best music by filling its five venues around the country. Barfly has staged such fine modern acts as the Darkness and Franz Ferdinand. Double Grammy and Brit Award winning four piece ‘Coldplay’ played at Barfly during the promotion of their first album ‘Parachutes’.
This Venue may show established bands but is also firmly committed to promoting up and coming acts and actively looks to receive demo tapes from unknown bands.
As well as a live music venue, Barfly is also home to two resident clubs. On Fridays the ‘Queens of Noize’ night throws together the best DJs and greatest new bands, plus the odd surprise, in an energetic and exciting mix. Courtney Love has described ‘Queens of Noize’ as ‘the most righteous bitches in Camden ‘. Saturday nights host ‘Transmission’, described as a musical argument between guitars and club culture. Resident DJs Jeff Automatic and Puff Punk are joined by guest DJs to play ‘…sharp sassy guitar tunes’. An eclectic night featuring bootlegs, album tracks and the best in new music.
The Barfly was once a tiny venue known as the Falcon- now the Monarch. The Monarch has two bars, a large one downstairs and a much smaller one upstairs where the bands perform. It is the venues continued commitment to showcase new bands that has made it one of the most popular and important new venues in London.
