I just saw a report on the BBC news. London is the most populair city of 2013, according to tourists that visit the city. Congratulations to London on this great review. But what is it that makes London so special? First of all, the language barrier. English is a language well known througout the world. A lot of people speak English, but in London ...read the rest

Worth a visit

Thursday 5th of December 2013
There is not much that gets me depressed, however, the Barbican area in London comes close. I visited it a few times, but I never liked it. Ofcourse there are people who love the area, but I try to avoid it. But there is one reason for me to visit this area. The Museum of London. I did visit it on my last visit to London. It was the second time tha...read the rest

Windsor Castle

Sunday 1st of December 2013
There is lots to see in London, but also in the area there is lots to see. One of my favorite places to visit is Windsor Castle. You can get there either by coach or train. The train is faster, but expencive. Windsor itself is a lovely little village with a theatre ( it is beautiful and it has some good shows), some lovely views and lots to do. Win...read the rest

Hidden gem

Friday 11th of October 2013
London is a wonderful place to visit. There is much to see, and lots to do. Lots of theatre productions and performances take place in London. I visit them from time to time, when I have the chance. It is always a lovely evening out. When I plan to visit London, I take a look on the internet to see if there are interesting performances or plays. Mo...read the rest

London theatre in your cinema.

Friday 14th of June 2013
Due to a serious horse riding accident, I was not able to visit London in the past year. I miss being there and seeing good plays. But that is about to change. Ofcourse nothing beats a night out in the West End. Top class actors and actresses play for full houses. People travel from all over the world to see their favorites in a play. I have been l...read the rest

London books

Sunday 9th of September 2012
There are many travelguides on London and they all tell a different story. I have read a few of them and ofcourse they all told me about all the tourist attractions. Not all books do though. In the London Waterstones stores you find a whole section on London books. Not only do they tell about tourist attractions, they also tell lots of other things...read the rest

At home and not at home

Monday 11th of June 2012
Sometimes visiting London is not that much fun as you expected. I had an experience like that when I was mugged in London some years ago. I had to go to the Dutch Ambassy for an emergency passport. I shall spare you the details of these visits (yes I had to visit it twice). The only thing I will say is that the staff should be ashamed on how they t...read the rest

New places to discover

Monday 11th of June 2012
When you visit London the first things you want to see are Buckingham Palace, The London Eye, the Tower of London and many more tourist attractions. Ofcourse you want to see as much as possible, and your stay in London is always to short. I have visited London many times and have seen lots of the tourist attractions. I must admit that I didn't see ...read the rest

A wonderful Sunday in London

Friday 6th of April 2012
Usually the Sunday is a boring day. At least here in my home town. It is different in London. The Sunday mornings can be used for long walks, and the ocasional cinema visit, but I must say that there is not much to do in London on Sunday morning. On my last visit to London I ended up at the Southbank. It was early in the morning, and I was surprise...read the rest

St Patrick's day in London

Thursday 29th of March 2012
A few weeks ago I was back in London after a long time. On the Sunday of my visit to London, I stumbled into a pleasant surprise. They celibrated St Patrick's Day. There was lots to do in London, but I saw the St Patrick's parade and a St Patrick's event at Trafalger Square. It was funny to see the roads around Trafalger Square without cars. All I ...read the rest

The hustle and bustle of London

Friday 21st of October 2011
Last week I went to the cinema. It has been a while since I saw a film in a cinema and Johnny English Reborn gave me a good oportunity to have a nice evening out. When I went home after the film, I noticed how quiet it was on the streets. Ofcourse it was a Wednesday evening, but a city like Rotterdam (not my hometown), should be bubbling. It was no...read the rest

Some of my favorite London is gone

Sunday 14th of August 2011
The first time I visited London I was 16 years old. With not much money I took the boat from Hook Van Holland and I swore I never would do it again. I was seasick and I didn't like it one bit. I like to feel ground under my feet, and am not comfortable on boats. But London itself was one great adventure. Over the years I have visted the city many ...read the rest

The London parks

Sunday 31st of July 2011
Sometimes the crowds are overwhelming and you want to get away from it. What I always do is visit one of London's parcs. Most of the time it is Hyde Park, but there are more parks in London. You can find them at the strangest places in town. A tip is to buy an A-Z guide and use it during your London visit. I bought one a few years ago, and it is a ...read the rest

The tourist traps of London.

Saturday 16th of July 2011
After some serious computer problems I am back with another blog for you. This time about tourist traps. Does London have them, would you ask. I can tell you that London has them. Ofcourse everybody has his or her own view on this, but I want to tell you about the places that are tourist traps for me. When I went to London for the first time I was ...read the rest

A night at the museum

Friday 13th of May 2011
One of the good things in London is that there are lots of great museums. My favorite is the National Portrait Gallery. It shows portraits from way back to Henry VIII (or even further back) untill now. Not all the pictures and paintings they have are on display, but they do change things from time to time. The entrance is free, accept for special e...read the rest

Sundays in London

Sunday 17th of April 2011
I am not a big fan of Sundays. The good thing is that I am off from work, but most of the time there is not much to do in my hometown. But not in London. The early mornings can be a bit boring (for me that is), but at midday the shops in Regent Street and Oxford Street are open for shoppers. Ofcourse there are cinemas and museums aswell. Theatres a...read the rest

Hampton Court Palace

Sunday 20th of March 2011
When the sun is out and the weather is nice, there is a nice place to go in the suburbs of London. I visited Hampton Court Palace twice on a sunny day. Once it was very hot, but it was worth a visit. Hampton Court Palace is just 30 minutes by train from the Waterloo station. When you get out of the train, it is just a small stroll over the bridge a...read the rest

Greenwich

Saturday 19th of February 2011
Last year I discovered a new area in London. New is not the good word, but it was new for me. After a quick visit one evening I knew I had to go back to this place. I am talking abuot Greenwich. The place where the world is split in 2 parts. The Eastern and Western part of the world. It is called the Prime Meridian of the world. You can see it in l...read the rest
