Your favourite London spot is…

The All In London Blog

Over the past few weeks we've been collecting all the votes for your favourite spots in London and apparently the location with the biggest place in your hearts is… Southbank.

By far the most popular response was a walk along various stretches of the river on London's Southbank. Then, taking in a range of sights and sounds from the London Eye to the Southbank Centre to Shakespeare's Globe to the Tate Modern and Tower Bridge amongst the hundreds of suggestions.

Other popular suggestions included:

- Covent Garden
- Hyde Park
- Natural History Museum
- Borough Market
- Battersea Park

We offered a £1000 prize to go to someone, picked at random, who posted their favourite spot on our facebook page. We're delighted to announce that the winner of the £1000 goes to: Gemma McCombe. Here's Gemma's favourite spot: "South Bank is one of my favourite places, so nice walking next to the river and going into the Tate or national gallery and finishing off in one of the restaurants and walking over the bridge to go back home."

So, even though London is famed for its hustle and bustle it was a relaxing walk along the river taking in the many sights and sounds that won through in the end.

We've hand-picked some of our favourite suggestions from all your responses and listed them below.

Very difficult to choose my top London hotspots... Very torn. It really depends if I am visiting with friends or family. If visiting with friends then of course I have to say Covent Garden, Harrods & Harvey Nichols ~ Followed by a night out in Soho :-) If I am visiting with family then it is most definately The natural History Museam or Tate Modern.

My Favourite place in London is the Japanese Garden in Holland Park. The whole park is beautiful. Wooded and wild. Serene and seemingly remote from the busy roads and crowds of the surrounding city. The Japanese Garden is a work of art, a place to sit and contemplate. If you have any small crumbs left over from your picnic lunch then you will find tame Blue tits and other small birds happy to feed close to you and even from your hand. A true oasis of calm in a fast and noisy world.

A walk from London Bridge - take in Borough Market and buy a picnic, visit the Golden Hinde (go with kids on a pirate day - it's brilliant), walk along the Thames, picnic outside the Tate, then go in if you want free culture! A really good day out for all the family.

Julie Houghton
Sir John Soanes' House is always good for a visit, followed by a walk round the Inns of Court - so English and particularly beautiful on a sunny (week)day.

Victoria station.....mad I know...!

My favourite spot in London in London is East Dulwich - lovely shops, brilliant North Cross Road market, the Cheese Block (cheese heaven) and Hope and Greenwood - a little sweetshop that looks like it's out of a fairy tale. A short walk away is beautiful Dulwich Park where you can feed the ducks or hire unusual bikes. Five minutes up the road is the award-winning Horniman Museum great for big and little kids. This part of South London may not have the tube but that aside I think it rivals the better known parts of London.
