The Christmas Jumper Edit

Love London

I realise all of my posts from here on in will pretty much be Christmas-based...#SorryNotSorry; that's just the way it rolls as we sleigh ride into December I'm afraid.

It's become an ubiquitous fashion essential of recent years that one invests in a jazzy festive jumper and, while I am more than slightly gutted that I shall be missing my friend Fleur's annual Christmas Jumper Party this year, I shall undoubtedly still be purchasing one to rock during the season. Here are my top contenders for 2014.

While Primark may still be the first, and only, port of call for many, there are so many beauties on the high street this year I really would recommend spending a little extra for something that you can wear more than once before it falls apart/you get an electric shock from the Christmas tree when wearing it. I'm a little bit in love with Cath Kidston's Bah Humbug! jumper (£70, www.cathkidston.com). Perfectly embodying the spirit of Christmas generally being a massive anticlimax. LOLs.

If you're not really one for the bright jazz-hands prints and fancy something marginally more demure (or something you can get away with wearing to work perhaps) check out Oliver Bonas. The soft knit Twinkle jumper (£39.50, www.oliverbonas.com) embellished with pink sequins might be right up your street.

For sheer novelty value you can't beat British Christmas Jumpers. The website does what it says on the tin, but does it oh so well; think novelty prints, slightly garish colours and designs that are sure to stand out from the crowd. My pick (not just because it's pink) is the 80s-tastic Dancing Stags. £35 at www.britishchristmasjumpers.com

Joules has done a particularly good job on its offering this year, with the festive fair isle of its intarsia knit featuring little snowmen, holly, candy canes and Christmas trees a nicely subtle nod without being too in your face. £79.95 at www.joules.com

F+F at Tesco boasts quite the collection this year, including a rather fetching number with KISS ME emblazoned in sequins across the chest which comes complete with a mistletoe headband for hands-free festive snogs. For proper comedy value go with the Elf jumper (£18) complete with jingle bells, sequin belt and pom poms on the toes. www.clothingattesco.com

Last but not least, good old Marks & Spencer, saviour of the high street, has come up trumps once again; I spied at least a dozen covetable jumpers on the website, from snowflake spattered sweatshirts to full-on sequins, to a festive Percy Pig. The cobalt Christmas Sequin Embellished Bow Jumper (£25) is almost irresistible (especially if planning to deliver yourself as a Christmas present to anyone. Natch.) www.marksandspencer.com

Plus, if all this talk of Christmas has left you filled with festive joy, why not get involved with Save the Children's Christmas Jumper Day, being held this year on Friday 12th December. George at Asda, the official retail partner for the day, is selling a range of Save the Children Christmas jumpers with prices ranging from £7 to £14., raising funds for Save the Children’s vital work in the UK. Beyond Retro is also supporting with donations to Save the Children, plus Costa will be selling a limited edition children’s Christmas book as well.
