Moomin shop, Lego reindeer and Christmas cheer in Covent Garden

KimT's London for Kids Blog

Covent Garden never fails to be a joy to kids and adults alike and Christmas time is no exception. Lots of kiosks sell mulled wine for the adults and the kids can look in wonder at the decorations which include large shiny red baubles suspended from the ceiling, a HUGE Christmas tree and giant models of silver reindeer. This year there is even a series of Lego models – and reindeer feature in those too.

But I was struck by a new store – The Moomin Shop. These delightful stories from Finland were recreated for various TV series and most people will recognise the characters. The stairs up to the store are beautifully decorated with scenes from the stories – with large wooden cut-out trees and immense wall paintings. And it is rather Christmassy.

And if you are stuck for original present ideas that don’t involve smartphones and tablets, the books would be ideal – especially if combined with one of the toy characters, baking kits, mugs and plates or clothing items that are available there. Any Scandinavian visitors to London will feel really at home.
