London Dog Blog – Walking from London Bridge to Tower Bridge

Dogs in London - The London Dog Blog

Despite the current train chaos at London Bridge station, it’s a great starting point for a cracking walk that includes riverside views, expanses of grass, tucked away parks and historic cobbled streets with a myriad of street cafes.

More London

We exited the station and walked along Tooley Street until we took a turn into More London. The fountains here provide both a welcome drink of water for dogs and a source of fun for kids. Then it’s just a stone’s throw to the riverside with glorious views of HMS Belfast and the Tower of London across the water.

Potters Fields

Here we turned inland on ourselves and pottered through Potter’s Fields which is just behind City Hall (note the Fratelli café nestling at its base if you need refreshment). It looks a bit forlorn in winter but there are some stone benches if you want to take a rest.

St John's Churchyard and play area

Moving further into the City there’s St John’s Churchyard offering more green space and a sizeable children’s play area (obviously the dogs are not allowed inside the enclosure).

Queen's Walk and Shad Thames

After wandering around here for a while we returned to City Hall – noting the rows of silver birch trees that are planted at the edges of the green spaces of Queen’s Walk. There are more benches here if you want to sit in and take in the views or simply people-watch. There’s plenty of space to run around here.

Then we continued under London Bridge and emerged into Shad Thames. If you take a right you emerge into a pretty little square (Tower Bridge Piazza) which contains a delightful water feature with some statues that are surrounded by al fresco cafes. Whereas if you go straight on you walk along historic cobbled paths with those amazing overhead structures and all manner of interesting shops and eating places on either side.

I love that I can enjoy London with my dog – there are so many green spaces.
