London Dog Blog – Battersea Dogs Home “End backstreet breeding” campaign

Dogs in London - The London Dog Blog

Battersea Cats and Dogs Home has launched an awareness campaign to alert the public to the sad practice of back street overbreeding of dogs by unlicensed individuals. It has released a video showing how some dogs are forced to be mothers again and again #MotherAgain and then abandoned.

It is lobbying MPs (there are already over 6,000 individuals and 51 MPs supporting the campaign) for changes in the law:

• A ban on the sale of puppies under eight weeks’ old
• The introduction of a required breeding licence for any household producing two or more litters per year

What can you do?

Learn more about the campaign, sign the petition and contact your MP. And if people ask you about your gorgeous dog and about how they go about acquiring one for themselves, make sure you advise them to go to a reputable and responsible breeder or rescue charity (there’s a helpful checklist on the Battersea Cats and Dogs home web site).
