Mother's Day Treats

Love London

Just in case you've been living under a rock, a helpful reminder that Sunday 15th March is Mother's Day. I know, how could we forget? While my Mummykins is generally happy with a phone call and a four pack of Crunchies (no joke), some of you may wish to lavish Mother dearest with gifts and trinkets, or treat her to a slap up luncheon or delicious afternoon tea. Fear not, if you're one of those I have a few suggestions up my sleeve!

I yearn to own a pair of the Marks & Spencer Rosie for Autograph Cashmere Pants (£79.20), sure the most indulgent comfies known to womankind. Throw away the faded PJs and tracksuit bottoms that have undoubtedly gone baggy at the knees and invest in something comfy and casual that's full of class. She'll love them. www.marksandspencer.com

One of the best websites I've come across for a multitude of gifting needs is Handpicked Collection. From jewellery and kitchenware, gorgeous pieces for the garden to fashion accessories if you can't find a Mum-friendly gift there's no hope. With a host of lust-worthy items it's worth a visit, even for yourself, as each product is lovingly handpicked (get it?) by a team of experts in their field, such as chefs, journalists and wine experts. Check out the new Handpicked Foodstore launching next Monday, but in the meantime they offer next delivery on orders placed before 3pm; my pick for Mum would be anything from the Connock London collection of luxury bath and body products. The silky smooth Bath Oil (£42.95), with a delicately heady scent of Hawaiian Kukui Oil is surely the ultimate bathtime indulgence. www.handpickedcollection.com

City dwellers with money to burn, hit Royal Exchange this week (open 10am-6pm, Mon-Fri) for some of London's best luxury shops. From Hermes and Jo Malone London to Kiehl's, Pretty Ballerinas and Smythson, if you don't find a suitable gift within its walls there's little hope of finding one elsewhere. My pick is the latest fragrance from Penhaligon's, Ostara, a delicate springtime scent inspired by the daffodil (from £78 www.penhaligons.com). Or if you really want to show Mama what she means to you, Theo Fennell's 18ct yellow gold, 0.22ct diamond & 14.17ct amethyst Briolette Drop Bee Earrings, coming in at a cool £3,000, will certainly mean you need never buy here a gift again. www.theroyalexchange.co.uk

I don't think I've ever come across a Mum who doesn't deserve pampering, so treat yours to an at-home, on-demand massage whenever the need strikes her with new app Urban Massage, Urban Massage, bringing five-star treatments to her door within one hour of booking. A therapist can be dispatched to customer's homes, offices or hotel rooms to deliver bespoke treatments as and when they are required, simply by downloading the free app, entering a postcode or letting in find your location and pick your massage. Currently operating in London and Bristol, it offers a choice of eight different massages and customers can also book up to four weeks in advance. Prices start at £65 and range to £190. Massages can be between 60 minutes and two hours long, plus for Mother's Day they are offering £20 off 'four hands' massages, so you can get a treat too under the guise of treating Mum to some 'quality time' together... www.urbanmassage.com

If an classic Afternoon Tea is your bag, forgo the formalities of London's hotels (exquisite as they are) for an altogether more cosy and wholesome set up at Kingly Court's Camellia's Tea House, just off Carnaby Street. Their Mother's Day Afternoon Tea Menu, available from Friday until the 20th, 1-6pm, includes a selection of finger sandwiches including such delicacies ad cream cheese with strawberry puree, along with classic scones, macarons and their delicious array of freshly baked cakes, not to mention your choice from their astounding menu of teas, plus a glass of Prosecco, all for £30 each. I visited a couple of years ago for a baby shower and the cakes were to die for. Visit http://camelliasteahouse.com/pages/the-shop_89.htm or call 0207 734 9939 to book.
