Open fire, sparkly lights and lots and lots of dogs at The White Swan, Richmond

Dogs in London - The London Dog Blog

We’d been out to dinner in busy Richmond town centre on a Friday night and whilst all the noise and jollity was fun, we wanted somewhere a little quieter to end our evening.

So we wandered across Richmond Green and out towards the river along Old Palace Lane and came across The White Swan.

It was softly lit and warm and welcoming. The open fire was much appreciated and cast a gentle glow. And we could see out towards the rear restaurant and walled garden there were lots of tasteful sparkly Christmas lights - with a splendid Christmas tree on the route to the loos.
But what made this pub extra special was all the dogs.

I think the Springer Spaniel belongs to the pub owners. He (or maybe she) potters around but generally sits close to the bar area where the staff move in and out to operate the coffee machine. There was a well-behaved King Charles Spaniel looking adoringly into his (or her) owner’s eyes sending telepathic messages no doubt along the lines of “please share your crisps”.

There was an enormous German Shepherd sitting quietly in the rear restaurant area – keeping an eye on everyone. And out from under a table I managed to coax a cute little Pug who I’d met at another Richmond pub a while ago.

I’ve enjoyed the food at this pub before so I know it’s good. And while it’s small, it’s really cosy. Alfie and I will be visiting very soon.
