Pump Up the Volume

Love London

Volume is my hair Holy Grail; blessed though some may see it with long, fine, poker straight locks (thanks Mum...), trying to get any lasting volume in there is a daily missions; thankfully there have been a few developments recently in my fight against flat follicles...

The genius team at TIGI Bedhead has created the brilliant new Fully Loaded range, a secret weaponfor limp, flat hair. The Massive Volume Shampoo[i] (£12.95) contains their innovative active volume [i]'Uploader technology, forming micro-points on the hair fibre which create friction allowing for more control on the brush when blow drying, helping create additional volume without impacting the feel of hair when dry. The Volumizing Conditioning Jelly[i] (£14.95) is loaded with fibre-thickening technology and absorbs into hair quickly and easily, swelling the actual hair fibres making them fatter and thicker. After becoming converted in the last few weeks I've certainly noticed a difference, as have others; one colleague commented my hair looked 'particularly voluminous' one morning - job done. As if that wasn't enough the [i]Big Head Volume Boosting Foam[i] (£16.95), an innovative mousse/texture cream hybrid and the [i]Full Of It Volume Finishing Spray (£14.50) are the perfect finishing touches to the range.

I love a good blow dry spray and Chelsea salon Duck & Dry have recently created the perfect addition to my hairdrobe. Used daily in the salon (one of the secrets behind their beautifully bouncy blow dries...) Blow Dry In A Bottle (£18 www.duckanddry.com) is an all-in-one volume spray that promises root lift, plumpness, texture and superb shine. Formulated with a selectively chosen collection of natural ingredients such as honey locust to give an instant volume boost and overall plumpness to the hair, white nettle to create natural root lift, ginseng to stimulate hair texture for extra grip and a combination of essential oils to provide nourishment, health and sheen. A new favourite.

The final recent addition to my hair army may not be one specifically working towards that ever-elusive volume, but it's become such a daily essential it's worth shouting about. I'm aware I'm late to the party with the Tangle Teezer, but having thought it was aimed more towards curly hair I'd never bothered picking one up. How wrong I was. This little piece of plastic packs a mighty punch in anyone's quest for a perfect barnet. Famously rejected on Dragon's Den, its creator must now be laughing all the way to the bank as this multi award-winning wonder has fans all over the world. It banished tangles and knots with a minimum of fuss, breakage or damage and is uniquely designed with teeth that glide through your hair leaving it soft and shiny without tugging and pulling. Though there's half a dozen to choose from, the new Lemon Sherbert colourway (£10.60 www.tangleteezer.com) wins when it comes to pretty dressing table accessories.
