Get More from Malta This Year

A Londoner Travels

The Meditteranean island of Malta has long been on my radar, but with a host of festivals and attractions going on throughout the year, now might be the time to book in. Fear not that e've already missed the Isle of MTV that happened at the end of June and Creamfields Malta, taking place this weekend (though I might add them to the diary for next year...) there's still plenty to entertain on this sun-drenched island throughout the year and with sunshine prevalent even as the temperatures in the UK start to plummet, it's the ideal location for a sunny getaway. Why not try one of these out for size:

The Sound You Need: August 26th – 29th
Get away this Bank Holiday to The Sound You Need, quickly building up to be one of the best events this summer. With an already killer lineup including Flight Facilities, Hudson Mohawke, Fakear, FKJ, and Sam Gallaitry, TSYN Festival continues to add some of the hottest names in the dance market. What So Not, Basenji, Point Point, Mr.
Carmack and Kilter have recently been added to take the stage
against the beautiful Mediterranean Sea backdrop. The three-day
festival will allow concertgoers to delve into the music scene with artists across various stages oscillating between the sun, sand, and sea. www.malt.tsyn.co

Glitch Festival: September 7th & 8th
Launching the very first edition of Glitch Festival, partygoers can
end the summer in the best way possible. The gorgeous Maltese
sunshine will feature house and disco followed by darker, disjointed techno, acid and electro where revellers can party throughout the night. The diverse lineup will include the likes of Ben Klock, Carl Craig, Dave Clarke, and Len Faki, and will also feature a rare appearance by Gesaffelstein. Additionally, KiNK, Midland, Tom Trago, Fatima Yamaha, Virginia and Jupiter Jax will add to the phenomenal musical
experience. The festival promises an immersive techno experience like no other on the picturesque island. For ticket information, log onto www.tickets.glitchfestival.com

The Malta Classic: October 6th-9th
Malta’s Grande Dame hotel, Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa, will once again sponsor the island’s iconic Malta Classic, one of Europe’s finest vintage car rallies. This year’s Malta Classic, held from 6th to 9th October, will feature a Hill Climb, Concours d’Elegance, practice and timed laps, and the final race on the circuit outside Mdina’s fortifications.

Formerly known as the Mdina Grand Prix, the Malta Classic is in its sixth consecutive year, celebrating vintage style against an historic backdrop. This year will see 70 participants from England, Italy, France, Malta and Switzerland. A variety of notable makes will form the grid, including Riley, Alvis, Ferrari, Jaguar, Alfa Romeo, Lancia and Talbot. The organising committee is also accepting expressions of interest from non-members who’d like to make a contribution.

On 6th October, the Malta Classic opens with the Hill Climb at the Pennellu Hill, which will be followed by a party in Mellieħa for overseas drivers. The following day, the Malta Classic Concours d’Elegance will celebrate the power and beauty of classics in the heart of Mdina, where select car collectors are invited to unveil their historic models. Entertainment, period dress and refreshments will add to the delight of visitors. The challenging circuit, outside Mdina’s fortifications, awaits drivers on 8th October, and on 9th October the races on the Malta Classic Grand Prix Circuit will commence, bringing out the very best performances by car and driver. The weekend will draw to a close with an awards ceremony hosted at the Corinthia Palace Hotel and Spa. For more information visit www.maltaclassic.com
