The Barbican launches its fourth London Children's Film Festival this weekend (runs Saturday 22nd November to Sunday 30th - covering seven cinemas across London) - in conjunction with BAFTA Families - but sadly I can't get along to see any of it as I have lots of prior commitments (in addition to the run up to Christmas I have both my kids' birthdays in December - really bad planning on my part!).
However, I would be interested to hear views from anyone who has taken their kids along in the past or gets along this year.
Key events this year include: Inside the World of Doctor Who (the recent exhibition at Earls Court on Doctor Who was a great success with mine - the Barbican says that the tardis will be landing at this event!) Storyboarding Masterclass (this sounds really hands on) Jazz Film Picnic Screenings of CBBC me and my movie short film awards The Pixelise the Population Project (animating as many Londoners as possible) Free Disco for Kids (hopefully one of those funky silent ones!) Various other workshops such as making puppets
The rather international line up of films include: Red Zora The adventures of Prince Achmed (a German animation) Madagascar - Escape 2 Africa Lion King (sing a long version - "In the jungle, the mighty jungle..." Kung Fu Kid The Girl who leapt through time (Japanese anime) Mozart in China Ten lives of Titanic the cat (from Norway) No network (from Iceland - and polar bears feature!) Hey Hey It's Esther Blueburger (Australian heroine leaves private school for high school) Diamond Dog Caper (American dog and baddy thieves story) A tale of two mozzies (Danish insect musical comedy) Moomims and the Midsummer Madness (the lovely Finnish creatures) There are also a number of short African films
Further info is as www.londonchildrenfilm.org.uk - please someone let me know what you think and I'll put it in the diary for next year if it's good...
