The All In London Review

"maybe it got left behind by the more current venues around"

Added Tue 17 May 2011 by T.A.O

One of Shoreditch high Streets oldest bars in it current guise, Juno trades on its 'urban' roots and a relaxed atmosphere, however this isn't all that apparent much of the time when it seems to appeal to a laddy football-watching public.

It's still capable of pulling the right kind of crowd, but it doesn't do it in the same way as when it was hosting great nights like Secret Wars and it's a shame because it's still a good space. On the here and now though, there's still the basement that's popular at weekends and Sunday nights host a quality vinyl-only excuse to go and hear old classics and while they've never solved the perennial problem of running out of draught beer, it's floated along with the times fairly well. When the taps are working there's Budweiser and Becks as well as Guinness and a food menu that offers standard wraps, burgers and sandwiches.

It's tough to pin down the appeal here but there is one, somewhere. There's clearly a lot of effort that goes into the artwork painted straight onto the walls and the staff are ultra friendly but yet there's still an overriding feeling of naff and maybe it got left behind by the more current venues around.

Looking back, this all reads quite negatively and it might be a bit harsh but when it’s a bar you’re running, even if it's just a little broke, you should probably fix it and too much under whelms.

My Review

7 out of 10 stars

We went to Juno's, a bar restaurant on Shoreditch High Street last night where we had a great value for money evening. Their 2 4 1 cocktail special was Mojito, it seemed rude not to. Great taste and lasted longer than many Mojitos I have had in the past. I went for the tempura chicken which was generous with juicy chicken if not slightly heavy batter served with a chilli sauce. For my main dish I went for the Rump steak with Peppercorn sauce, chunky chips and salad. A bit on the medium side for me but tasty none the less. I finished off the meal with a white Americano which had a good strength and taste.
The menu is very reasonably priced and it is worth coming back on a different night to try another 2 4 1 cocktail.
