The All In London Review

"Quite, old fashioned boozer right behind Notting Hill Gate"

Added Tue 14 Sep 2010 by Leila

The Uxbridge Arms could surely be a contender for quietest pub in London, particularly given its location right behind the hustle and bustle of Notting Hill Gate.

From the outside it’s quaint-looking with hanging baskets and a couple of benches, while indoors the décor is old-fashioned, all carpeted floors and mahogany wood. There is even a fireplace to one side – this is what pubs used to look like before the advent of the gastro-pub, remember those?

There is no food served, music played or even a television on display to distract punters from the task in hand: drinking. Ales including London Pride are available on tap as well as Carling and Thatchers Gold cider.

Despite getting the feeling that this pub harks back to “the good old days” unfortunately the prices are very 2010. A (large) glass of red wine and a bottle of Corona came to around £8, then again it is presumptuous to expect a pub to be dirt cheap purely because they’re aiming to be traditional.

A delightful stop if you happen to be in this trendy neighbourhood and want a quiet chat away from the Notting Hill set.
