The Camden Head, formerly Liberties Bar, has retained its slightly ‘worn’ look, despite undergoing a recent redesign. Not a bad thing, as the fireplace and battered wooden furniture lend the pub character along with a distinctly homely atmosphere.

That is, during the day at least, as its small size means it can get busy of an evening, particularly when there’s a gig upstairs or it’s a weekend night. Comedy nights and plays are also hosted on the upper level, which occasionally opens during the day for improvisation classes or the odd matinee.

A full menu with sandwiches, burgers, pies and other standard pub fare is nothing out of the ordinary, particularly when there are so many other better eateries nearby. No, the Camden Head is definitely more of a drinker’s pub, with a main attraction being the late opening times: 1am during the week and 3am on Fridays and Saturdays. Bottled beers are priced at £3.30 and the pints are just a tad cheaper.

Free wi-fi and a pool table are further amenities, while DJs perform downstairs at the weekends. On these nights expect a suitably rowdy affair, as befits Camden.
