Ordered 2 Beef Sirloin and half chicken Sunday roast but was told only one available, so I took the Hunters chicken so my dad would get the roast.

When food arrived it was only a beef roast we got. Spoke to the gentleman behind the bar and said, this isn’t what I ordered. His reply was “these things happen”.

** No apology or anything. **

Throughout the meal the bar staff stared at me and made it very uncomfortable whilst eating my meal.

I asked the bar staff why was he staring at me while I was eating my meal and I was rudely told to eat my dinner.

Absolutely disgusting behaviour by any bar staff. I think management need a good look at their staff or more training should be provided.

Utterly disgusting. Do not recommend. Impolite. Rude. Abusive. Shoved around for "better customers". Go somewhere else if you can!

I was in London two weeks ago, I Stayed at the hotel across the street. The pub always caught my attention as it seemed to be filled with a good crowd. Finally, after a day of seeing the sights, we wandered in. Great place, good conversations with the locals, good beer (London Pride), and good food. Price was very reasonable. I'll go back.

After the positive reviews on this site, we went to the Stanhope for a drink when we were in London for a weeks break. It was very busy and the round was a simple Pint and a vodka with a dash of cola. My change was handed to me wrapped in a £10 note and when I checked I had been charged £9.28 - even by London standards a rip off so I checked the price board and yes - I had been overcharged. Next round I made it clear the first round had been overcharged and surprise, surprise - same round is now £7.28. Be careful if you visit. It's a good atmosphere pub but ask the price BEFORE you pay.

Food is sub standard. I dont mind eating other fish than cod but i do object to being sold fish masquerading as cod. This time it was pollock... Dry with soggy batter. Girl that was working there was unhelpful. Wouldnt sell us anything for a four yr old other than nuggets and chips. He wanted sausage and mash which was on the adult menu but obviously a kids portion. This wasnt possible yet sausage and chips was.... So i asked for a side order of both which was possible....

Food good, service good, decent ale (Dave), prices sensible, good menu, we were in London to see Queen Symphonic at the Royal Albert Hall; stayed locally; visited Stanhope Arms and had two main meals and one breakfast (Oct.18/19) second evening meal we had a job to find a seat. Manager? asked a couple if we could share their table - to which they agreed. Had a good chat with them - they were going to Chelsea match! and an American couple - who were in London for two weeks and said that each time they are in London, they always come to The Stanhope Arms for a 'pint'. Staff were friendly, helpful and polite. When we are next in the area, we will definitely be going there for meals. Have recommended to our son and daughter in law for when they are in London. Only regret is that I forgot to ask for a receipt to enter the competition to give my opinion with a chance to win £1,000.00!

I love the Stanhope so much it's my first stop after I check in to the hotel after a trans-Atlantic flight. Great staff; great food (the bangers and mash are too die for!) and reasonably-priced pints. Sky Sports on the big screen TV's and always plenty of lively conversation to be had with people from across the globe. What else can you ask for?

Was in london on vacation last year and loved this pub. Came over from the states and after a long trip, just wanted to relax and have a few pints. The hotel bar was full because of a soccer match. Decided on the Stanhope and ended up going back every night for at least one beer. Great pub

Chanced across this little gem of a boozer after sadly spending the last part of the first night in our overpriced hotel bar sipping awful beer.

The Stanhope was busy but not too overcrowded - good mix of age groups, lots of visitors such as ourselves but with a re-assuring smattering of locals.

REAL ALE was available as well as the usual keg beers, lagers etc.

Enjoyed London Pride, Spitfire, Old Speckled Hen and Greene King IPA, first in that order and then back again and at about £3 for a really decent pint in London I was made up after the initial horror of the first night back at the hotel bar.

(I'm from up north, a Lancashire lad and yes you can get a decent pint in London!)

Staff were very friendly / efficient and the bar manager / landlord came across as a bloke that knows how to run a pub and interact well with the punters.

Got talking with lots of people from UK, Europe, USA etc and all were upbeat, enjoying the evening with some happy to join us at our table after talking at the bar.

Very friendly atmosphere with a lot of passing trade as well as those settled in for the night. Some great music played in background with Rugby showing on large screen.

Pub wound up at about 12 midnight after ample warning to get your last drinks with the landlord / manager clearing his pub in a friendly manner, dispensing handshakes along the way.

Needless to say went back the next day to enjoy a nice pub meal before setting off home after another frantic day of sightseeing - if we had stayed another night in London it would most certainly have been spend once again in this pub!

Most certainly highly recommended!

I went to London one week ago,... i didn't know a place to stay after our long walking days knowing the city. We meet the Stanhope pub by chance and we fall in love. Good food, beer, music and it's incredible staff. Well done boys & girls.

Came down from Aberdeen first week of march and used the stanhope as a base.I was always disappearing, nobody bothered to phone me as they knew where I would be.Really enjoyed the atmosphere and after a few days my pint was on the counter before I asked for it.We ate there a few times and the food was really good.Going back in june and I hope nothing has changed, see you then.

I had the pleasure of being able to get to know the wonderful staff and patrons at The Stanhope over the course 2 weeks. Great to have a quick bite to eat and have a few pints!
