I've lived in stokey all my life and most of the decent venues on church street have closed down as hoxton and shoreditch take over. The Red Lion is now the only bar really worth visiting around there. Wicked music, friendly staff, food served out back in the garden, nice big couches and a decent range of booze to sample. Not cheap, but not as pricey as lots of the places cropping up around here at the moment. This is my chosen local, for sure!
