"Come for the fun of a real original"Review Rating: Reviewed by T.A.O
The Biddle Brothers, former builders yard and current home to awesome bar-cum-pub, is just the thing that Clapton could do with more of. Not blessed with the same number of pubs and bars as its neighbouring Hackney and Dalston, it's the long road with the bad reputation according to some who dare not wander that far from Mare Street.
However, it has some success as a destination as well as a local that manages to attract mixed outsiders with friendliness from the bar, rotating art shows on the walls, a well used DJ booth and the subtext of dog-versus-parrot competing to become fans' favourite pub pet. And, all this without mentioning the community spirit, proudly channeled through sponsorship of the apparently legendary local football side, Haggerston Nomads.
The weekends are fairly wild and the doors stay open late, but for the rest of the week it's a fairly good bet for a more relaxed drink with entertainment in the form of table football rather than the eclectic DJs who tend to play Friday and Saturday’s like it's a house party.
There's no food but a pizza is spied being delivered to the doorstep, and on the bar there's a concise range of drinks, which take in Staropramen, Becks and Guinness.
Come here to build new relationships or, erm, ballast old ones. Or ignore doofus building jokes and come for the fun of a real original.
