Great beers in a cosy traditional pub - go for the live jazz on Sundays.

The Dove Freehouse & Kitchen is a popular gastro pub with dark wooden floors, candles and a non-smoking dining room.

All In London Review

The Dove has gone from strength to strength

Since Broadway Market became a little more than just an East London back street with food stalls on a Saturday, The Dove has gone from strength to strength. The whole area has changed rapidly over the last five years but while the market attracts thousands to its mixture of clothing, record and food stalls, the pub has barely changed a bit.

It still retains the traditional look and the only glimpse of an alternative flounce is the huge Leffe mural stuck to the ceiling above the otherwise standard décor of heavy wooden tables on well-worn floorboards. It’s cozy in winter, where you can slip into the over heated depths of the dimly lit quarry at the back (and hear live jazz on Sunday evenings). The large windows at the front capture the light and it’s slightly breezier up here but you can guarantee that come summer most of the drinking will be done on the street outside.

As well as being a free house serving standard lagers, it also packs a massive range of Belgian beers by the bottle and a set on draught, including Palm and Delerium. It’s restaurant area serves up fairly expensive gastro-style cuisine and there’s a range of gourmet burgers and sausages along with traditional Belgian meals in the pub.

Aside from its irritating noise policy there’s not much to fault with The Dove and if this Broadway Market thing does ever die off it will still be going just the way it is.

Being on Broadway Market The Dove can sometimes feel a little like it knows it's got a good thing going on and acts accordingly - a sort of Mike Skinner 'Fit but you know it' type of thing if you will.

But then anywhere with as many Belgian beers as this (over 50!) is a hero to me. Plus the burgers are GOOD and come winter, it's the cosiest pub around.

The Dove is a lovely looking pub, with fantastic decor, and a great selection of beers and drinks. Unfortunately the over zealous security at night seems to be causing a lot of people to choose alternative venues- they are given to barking orders and manhandling people they are unhappy with. Apparently laughing loudly, talking loudly, singing, and standing on the pavement outside without a drink are all forbidden, and you can be banned for these activities. I was charged almost double for the last round I bought there, and the management were not helpful when I tried to resolve this. A shame.

A gem of a pub. There is no shortage of things to drink, makes other places just plain boring. I went in with a friend a couple of weeks ago and was invited in to a Belgian beer tasting - i gave a couple of quid to a charity and they gave me FREE beer and food. The guy who presented it knew all about beer. It was really interesting. Had a great night and been in nearly every week since. The staff are busy but really friendly. The Thai green curry and the Beef carbonnade are my favorite dishes. A tip is to book into the dining room and then you don't have to jostle trying to find a table in the main dining room.

I love this pub. The food is great and reasonably priced. The Belgian beers are amazing, they stock loads of different ciders too. Sunday lunch is a must, great if you are a carnivore or if you are a vegetarian. The only problem is that it is a bit too busy.
