All In London Review
Proof that when you’re a stone’s throw from Goldsmiths you don’t have to be a pop-up Campari bar on the roof of a car park to get people across the river.
The Amersham Arms is a famous name in south London. Its art school crowd make it a destination for yet more students and a local media crowd – newly transplanted from East London – who each go looking for the well-dressed girls and boys – them and the music policy that can switch between rockabilly and punk faster than you can say ‘Zoe Deschanel rules!’ Proof that when you’re a stone’s throw from Goldsmiths you don’t have to be a pop-up Campari bar on the roof of a car park to get people across the river.
Inside the pub is split into two rooms. An events space at the back hosts comedy, exhibitions (from resident art gallery Take Courage), live bands and DJs. The entrance bar also has its own DJ, splitting the two sides into something of a battle of the rooms versus situation – that’s the way I see it anyway. All it needs is for Aerosmith and Run DMC to come in one night and start banging on the walls at each other, but that would be surreal, but then this is Goldsmiths country, so would it?
Dressed in posters, chintzy lamps and an overall divey aesthetic, the Amersham is a provider for what the people want. And what they want is a place to dance, drink and generally lose it with a like-minded hip crowd. New Cross could do with more venues like the Amersham Arms.

Best For
Top venues for Indie fans
London is the UK's indie hotbed - Manchester and Liverpool will try and lay claim but purists know the truth... it's London, baby.
Anybody unfamiliar with the Amersham Arms has probably never been on a night out in New Cross. If you’re an indie music fan then that’s a sin. The student population of Goldsmiths make sure that the music policy remains as fresh and fun as the boisterous crowd who attend nightly.

The Amersham is great on a Saturday night. Its actually open to 3am (and the same on Friday night I think) and often plays 60's music that gets everyone up and dancing. Lots of hot indie students about too.. Bonus!
