All In London Review

A fantastic location

Now I have read some pretty miserable reviews of this bar – mostly commenting on mediocre beer and aggressive bar staff – so I must come to its defence. I’ve been coming here on a fairly regular basis for many years and have never had a bad experience. Mind you, I don’t drink beer so I can’t comment on that.

It is in a fantastic location. Right on the Twickenham riverside – with fabulous views of the river and with lovely walks either into the town centre or along the river towards Marble Hill Park (in which case you will pass another great riverside pub – The White Swan). And it faces the rowing club. Always something great to watch on the river.

There is a large area out of the front with picnic style tables and benches and large umbrellas and usually I sit at one of these. It is nearly always busy. And it’s a pretty mixed crowd – all life is here.

When there is a match on in Twickenham the place absolutely heaves with rugby fans – from all clubs and nations. And very good natured it is too. And if you are lucky you’ll get to join in on one of the sing songs. I pity the poor residents though although I have never seen any trouble there (but rugby fans are generally pretty well behaved and good natured).

Inside is a large bar with generally friendly and chatty staff who somehow manage to serve you quickly – no matter how busy it is. There are various nooks and crannies (the little area just inside the door is set within a bar window and comfortably accommodates a small group of around six), various levels and big easy armchairs. It’s old worldly and nice. Comforting.

There’s a good choice of bar meals and I have never been disappointed. And the Sunday roast there is great. In the summer months they often have a BBQ outside which is reasonably priced and good quality. In the summer months too they also operate an outside bar (serving mostly beer) for the rugby fans.

I’ve been there with groups of mates – all girls, mixed couples and, of course, my rugby friends as well as on dates. Never been disappointed.
