All In London Review

A lovely wine bar with good food but a lot to be desired from the waiting staff

Review Image
It looks a bit like a warm All Bar One and is placed right next to favourite amongst Richmond’s teens (The Lot). It used to be one of my regular haunts in this part of the world – partly because the atmosphere is always so friendly and partly because the wine always good. Plus you are more than likely to meet the cast after shows at the nearby Richmond Theatre. That was disconcerting when the folk from the Snow White and Seven Dwarves were in a couple of years ago.

There’s a large bar area with both tables and sofas to sit on. There’s usually some larger groups as well as the couples. It’s nearly always buzzing.

But there is a separate room where you can dine as well. I’d met my friend at the station early in the hope that we could get a table. But at 630pm the restaurant was busy with pre-theatre diners and as we declined to share a table were directed to the bar while we waited until 730pm. We were a little bit jostled by the waiting staff as we stood as directed by the booking console.

We retreated to the comfort of the bar and enjoyed a really excellent bottle of wine for £18. They also provided a bottle of water. The dining room staff popped over after a few minutes to say that a table was available but we’d have to leave by 8pm. We declined and said we’d wait til 730pm as suggested.

At 7:30pm we were called to our table and before we could finish settling were told that we’d have to move. There were at least five other free tables and could see no good reason why we were being moved but did so anyway.

The waiter didn’t bat an eyelid as I ordered the roast cod fillet but requested chips instead of mash (£15). I could imagine the chef sighing as he arranged the beautifully cooked cod on chips instead of mash. My colleague said that her duck breast (£18.50) was also cooked really well although it was rather a small portion and the red cabbage and daphinoise potatoes. And I admit that we both ordered the sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel ice cream (£5.50) for dessert which was sublime.

I have to add that the toilets were not in a good state – there was paper strewn everywhere.

So... a lovely wine bar with good food (although a little pricey for a bar) but a lot to be desired from the waiting staff. But maybe they were just having an off night.

Had a meal here last night. Nice decor and a nice atmosphere. The food was really very good although not particularly cheap if you're looking for pub food.

I'd recommend it and would definately go back again.
