All In London Review
enjoy the buzz of the atmosphere
The bar serves a range of speciality world beers, ciders and interesting cocktails and as you’d expect in this location the prices are hiked up for all those who can afford them. Food comes in the way of stone baked pizza from the oven of the next door neighbours, Due Sardi- a Sicilian restaurant who have struck up a deal to deliver in-house. The music is a mixture of genres that involves the ironic along with eclectic electro, pop and rock n roll and, yes the staff may be a little uptight occasionally but then this is Shoreditch and who says the customer’s always right? Just enjoy the buzz of the atmosphere and focus on all the interesting quirks from what’s on the walls to who’s in the bar and if you don’t like it- go to a Samuel Smith pub.

A great place for people-watching!
The tables and chairs leave a lot to be desired – it’s all rather worn and scruffy. And sad, mortally wounded sofas. Legend has it that the place used to be two shops – a shoe shop and a leather repair shop (hence the name).
However, what is a really attractive and unique feature is that the wall art changes each month and is provided by local artists. When I visited there dominant colour was cyan and my friends suggested that the large murals were in the style of Eastern bloc silk screens. It was striking. On the wall and ceiling above the loos there was an even more eye-catching blue diagonal design.
The bar staff were chatty and young – and possibly a little vacant. They had no idea why there was a model crab hanging from the ceiling. But the service was fast and the beer prices were very reasonable – so that’s OK then.
Apparently, the place jumps as the evening wears on and the crowds spill out across the pavements of the busy main road outside. Downstairs (and take care on the steps as it was rather dark) there are three large areas (again, rather scruffy and bare in the cold light of day – although the squishy sofas did look inviting) are extensive and it’s well geared up for music and informal gigs. I adored the graffiti - it reminded me of some of the subterranean clubs of the Covent Garden of yesteryear.
Funnily enough, when I was trying to locate the web site I stumbled across some other reviews. They were all very positive (this is an understatement) although one warned “Beware – there are lots of graphic designers here” which I thought was very funny as the guys I was with there WERE graphic designers. So, Kurt and team, not only are you famous – you are to be feared now!
Personally, I think I am way too old to be in such an achingly trendy place, but I have a teenage son that I think would be perfectly at home there.
