I arrived to Rhythm in Crouch End at around 1.30PM on Sunday together with three friends for a spot of late lunch. Upon arriving I realized there was one waitress managing about eight tables. Fifteen minutes after arriving we where finally asked for our orders. We ordered four Jerk Chickens and two sides of plantains from their lunch menu.

Half an hour later our starters and entrees arrived. The four plates included rice, coleslaw and two large chicken breasts. While the first breast of chicken was well cooked, the second breast of chicken was half pink, with the meat closest to the bone raw.

I politely asked the waitress to take the plates back and ask the chef to cook them for a bit longer, given one of my friends was pregnant and I normally do not eat raw chicken. Five minutes later the waitress arrives and tells me it is not possible; not offering to replace the dishes or remove them them from the bill. At this point I asked to speak to the chef.

Ten minutes later, with no food or drinks on our table while we waited, the chef stormed out of the kitchen, like a race horse galopping towards our table. Instead of introducing herself and asking us for feedback she proceeds to bluntly ask "What is wrong?". Pointing at a piece of raw chicken I explained to her I we needed the chicken to be cooked for longer. Her response? "The bone is cooked and it is not possible for me to cook it for any longer". After a few exchanges I realized that in Rhythm the customer is not right.

Throughout this entire saga, the manager was perched behind the bar. She only joined in the conversation when I informed the waitress we were leaving. The manager seemed to be from the same school of "the customer is never right" - failing to acknowledging raw chicken is not acceptable but a health hazard. Furstrated, I paid her £20 for the drinks and left.

Having discovered the Rythm bar late last year I now consider it to be such a FIND. I often go there for my Sunday traditional West Indian dinner. The food is lovely and the service equally as good. Nice friendly staff and good music.
