All In London Review
A local’s pub in an area of London with more offices and ad agencies than locals
The Peasant on St. John’s Street toes the party line, opening between 12:00 and 19:00 on a Sunday and providing evening drinks and lunches to the city folk and agency types during the week. There is a strangely subdued atmosphere in the pub at times, there’s an air about it of people just passing through. A local’s pub in an area of London with more offices and ad agencies than locals. It’s not the venue itself. This is an attractive pub with a handsome tiled floor that draws the eyes downwards, framed music posters that inject a little personality and a lively staff. Maybe it’s just that Clerkenwell fug that gets to the Peasant?
On draught the beers are good, there’s the unusual Camden Wheat Beer as well as a range of ales. The food is quality pub grub that would run rings around some of the other local gastro outfits, while the upstairs restaurant has a life of its own. Eat from a more up-market menu and pay £20 for two courses – a bargain.
If you were meeting for quiet drinks then The Peasant would make a good spot. It is relaxed and welcoming and even if that is largely the extent of it, what’s wrong with that?
