All In London Review
For a free bar in the heart of Shoreditch there is no way that you can go wrong with Mother Bar
With the separate entity of 333 below it, Mother Bar is the slighter, sultrier of the two venues crushed together like a double-decker bus. A trip up the steep staircase ends by breaching the double doors into the suave yet seedy William Morris splattered interior. The first room is pure lounge – leather buttoned couches, sinking seats that push you into the person next to you – an excuse to get talkative.
Onwards to the main room and once again the grand décor is slightly shocking for a place with a reputation for such trashy fun. It is one big dance floor, surrounded by the odd tables and chairs that are often swallowed up as the night wears on. Bars can be found in both rooms and queues are frequently long. Drinks are the usual spirits although for a venue that feels part club it’s a pleasant surprise to find draught lager on tap.
If you’re not one of the many who venture to the Mother bar when all other hopes of a late night party have failed, then the reason you’ll be heading in is for the eclectic lineup of DJs. Always beat happy, the nightly residents take you through dubstep, hip-hop, indie-disco, electronica, house and anything else that seems to pop into their heads. No one night seems to be the best at the Mother Bar and that in itself is testament to its consistent quality.
For a free bar in the heart of Shoreditch there is no way that you can go wrong with Mother Bar and its excitable dancing crowd.
