All In London Review
A smart local with the benefit of an adventurous kitchen.
Spruced up like a peacocking pub set on doing its best to equate itself with gastro leanings, it is somewhere between stylish Hoxton outpost and small town Pitcher and Piano/Slug and Lettuce/All Bar One – delete as appropriate. But that’s no bad thing. There are plenty of tables across two floors, the menu is adventurous enough and on this occasion the bartender even knocked up a couple of Old Fashioneds for us, off menu; whadda guy. In the evenings you’re invariably likely to find a lively atmosphere waiting for you. It may be a short walk up Hoxton Street but by the looks of things it has its locals to give the music purpose.
By all accounts the Bacchus roast is where it’s at in these parts. But since we can’t comment on that we’ll have to tell you about the steak. The presentation is a little more fancy than the food itself but the steak was beautifully cooked. The menu falls on the fancier side of gastro and if you want something other than the ribs and wings that most pubs of a similar ilk seem to be serving nowadays then Bacchus is a win.
Bacchus is a smart local with the added benefit of having an adventurous kitchen. It may not be a pub worth going out of your way for but if you happen to be in Shoreditch at the weekend and in need of a more subdued experience, then pay it a visit.
