K Lounge at K West Hotel has a relaxed atmosphere and has a bit of everything. Light bar snacks, cocktails and dancing til dawn on Friday and Saturday nights (well until 02am at least!) as the DJs spin their stuff!

All In London Review

West London hotel bar is cool and non-showy

What is the deal with hotel bars? To some they are the epitome of glam, while to others they are just plain cheesy. The very words “hotel bar” usually conjure up images of an over-enthusiastic piano player banging out easy listening melodies while a singer of average talent entertains an audience of Japanese business travellers. Or there’s the hip version, where a DJ “who’s played in Ibiza” sticks on the latest Hed Kandi compilation on repeat.

But there is still something alluring about them. Perhaps it’s the transience, the romance of travel, coupled with the fact that some hotel bars are just really damn cool. The K Lounge at the four star K West Hotel certainly isn’t competing in the OTT stakes - it doesn’t have the lavishness of The Bar at the Dorchester or the ridiculous blingness of the Gilt Cocktail Lounge at the Jumeirah Carlton, instead, this modest bar has subtle lighting, maroon sofas and a modern-looking fireplace; the long bar with sweeping curtains behind it is about as flashy as it gets. It’s cool and relaxed rather than showy, even if Take That, Tinie Tempah and Kings of Leon have been spotted in here, and it’s not even in central London, however its Shepherds Bush location means it’s handy for Westfield shoppers, BBC bods and those coming out of a gig at the 02 Shepherds Bush Empire.

The cocktail list sticks to classics: Martinis, Cosmopolitans and Old Fashioneds, all priced at around £10-11 - it’s not cheap to drink where the stars are. There’s food too, the lunchtime menu offers salads, pasta dishes and sandwiches while the evening one sticks to bar snacks and burgers; we snack on rings of garlicky tender squid, spicy edamame beans and a juicy burger with a hot jalapeno salsa, a plump Portobello mushroom, oodles of cheese and mayo.

And what of that deciding factor, the entertainment? Their weekend DJ, who goes by the name of Prince Charles, was once booked by Naomi Campbell for Leo DiCaprio’s birthday, and is accustomed to playing R&B and hip hop at Vendome and hotel bars in Dubai. If that sounds appealing, you’ll be even more pleased to know the bar closes when the last person leaves.
