Returning for another season after its last ueber-successful dabble in the Apres work market, Archer Street will be sending the Soho clique straight out to the Alps (nearly) aka a tongue-in-cheek and beautifully designed winter escape camped in its downstairs bar. A warm and elegant ski lodge, inspired by Scandinavian mountain cabins and Swiss chalets awaits those in need of a pick-me-up with reindeer fur, vintage skis, and even Piste’s own roaring fire. Delve into the mulled wine or schnapps and enjoy stunning views over the Italian Alps, through one of Archer Street’s custom-made ‘windows’.

The downstairs bar changes every six months and Piste is the latest incarnation following the fond farewell we bade to the summer bar; Brazilian themed, fun-filled, colourful Barzinho.

All In London Review

A lively new incarnation for the Archer Street pop-up

Review Image
Installed in celebration of the ‘it’ country of 2014, Archer Street have added Brazilian bar Barzinho to their basement. Colourful, striking and vibrant, we can’t help but fall for it harder than we ever have for the Archer Street lounge bar above it.

With Brazil hosting the World Cup this summer, London is understandably going a little Rio. Barzinho has installed a special cocktail menu, décor and staff outfits in honour of the country of Carnival. Brazil football shirts are worn behind the bar, the inimitable Archer Street entertainment is here (singing staff on tables) and an easygoing party vibe makes the basement bar a place we’d happily come back to. The old posters of Brazilian adverts featuring beaches, sun kissed figures and landmarks are almost the equivalent of those people who hold up A4 signs at football matches but the painted corrugated iron around the walls makes up for that. Forget summer 2014, Barzinho should remain in the Archer Street basement long after the last ball has been kicked and remain Brazilian.

Like in the Archer Street lounge bar, cocktails don’t come cheap and if you want to sip on The Redeemer (acai berries, Campari infused goji berries, passion fruit and Cachaca) in one of the intimate arches you’ll have to fork out £11 for the pleasure. But, sharp, sweet, dry and refreshing, the signature drink at Barzinho is a winner. There is also a banana infused take on the classic caipirinha and the appearance of a twist on the deliciously naff Pina Colada. If you’re in Soho and in need of a little samba spirit then Barzinho will be there to provide the hit all summer.

Gosh, where do I start? Decor is somewhat Brazilian, somewhat from the Andean countries (Peru, Chile, Colombia). Music is not Brazilian. Caipirinhas don't taste like the real thing (lacks sugar and cachaca, the Brazilian spirit). One cocktail misspelled one of Brazil's trademark "batida" (not BatiLda, as they advertise) and another named "salsa" has chilli in it (salsa is NOT Brazilian, and most Brazilians do NOT eat chilli). Boring bar that simply does not get you into the Brazilian mood. Pls learn the difference from Brazil to other Latin countries. (from a proud Brazilian/ Londoner)

Really colourful and lively (in keeping with the Brazilian theme!) and definitely worth going out of your way for. Arguably it's rather in contrast with the bar upstairs, but I guess now it has something to appeal to all tastes.. great night out :-)
