All In London Review

A more interesting alternative to the All Bar Ones & Slug and Lettuces out there...

Review Image
The party alternative to the All Bar Ones, Pitcher and Pianos and Slug and Lettuces of this world, Dirty Martini is spreading fast. Now with a fifth venue in St. Paul’s, the chain has brought its brand of cocktails, sleek interiors and commercial DJ dance to the City.

Located on Wood Street, the bar is primarily going to serve the local corporate crowd in the area. When we head along on opening week, the clientele is split between those dressed to kill and those dressed straight from the office. Starting off cautiously it doesn’t take long before the dirty martinis flowing from the bar encourage dancing and whooping to whatever catchy concoction it is we’re listening to – we think David Guetta, probably.

As the name suggests, Dirty Martini is part respectable cocktail bar, part lascivious late night dance spot. The bright lights, mirrors, luxe looking fabrics and furniture show a surface level chic that make it quite easy to forget that this is a chain bar. It won’t be everybody’s cup of tea and it doesn’t feel like the most authentic of places but there is great attention to detail – not least in the Peaky Blinders lookalikes working the bar.

Dirty Martini matches its location with its prices. House spirits are £8.25 a go so you’d be best off opting to look like a boss and ordering a whole bottle. Absolut Vodka will set you back £120 but if you’re going to do that then you might as well upgrade to Grey Goose for a cool £150. Of course, besides the spirits there are the signature cocktails. Stick to the Dirty Martinis and you won’t be sorry. We’re pleasantly surprised by the quality and drink at least three espresso martinis before we leave. Happy hours change throughout the month but generally you’ll find half-price martinis and £3 Asahi beer if you arrive between 5pm and 8pm.

Good for cocktails, good for midweek dancing and just the place to meet a partner from the financial industries - if that’s the kind of thing that floats your boat.
