Brewer's Bar is the latest exciting addition to Shacklewell Lane. Housed in an old butcher’s shop dating from 1818, Brewer’s Bar has been lovingly renovated to reveal such long-hidden treasures as the original red and gold shop sign, marble butcher’s counters and ornate period ironwork. Salvaged Victorian tiles, machinists’ chairs, church pews and an up-cycled bar made from an old piano complete the look, creating a beautiful, eclectic and unique space – a haven of serenity in hectic Dalston.

An emphasis on quality and sophistication includes collaboration with London’s finest local producers.
Brewer’s Bar are collaborating with Partizan Brewing, and exclusively stocking their fine craft beer.

Other local producers showcased at Brewer’s Bar include sodas from Square Root London, cider from Crate Brewery, wine from Aleksic & Mortimer Winehouse, cheese from La Fromagerie, bread from E5 Bakehouse, and bar snacks from Brindisa Spanish Foods.

A pocket rocket of a bar that goes heavy on wooden style and easy on roominess

Everyone knows that good things come in small packages (right?) and for me this particularly applies to bars. I’ll take an intimate space to drink in over a vast expanse of table room any day. Luckily for me – and you, reader – Dalston has its own pocket rocket of a bar that goes heavy on wooden style and easy on roominess.

Located on Shacklewell Lane, Brewer’s Bar is a handsome arrangement created out of an old Butcher’s shop. Built from straight up wood, the shed-chic aura is an appealing one. Settle in the window at the raised bench, take one of the few tables in the mid-section or squash into the bar area, which really isn’t much more than a sweet little serving hatch. If you’re at Brewer’s Bar and wondering why so much wood – beautiful wood at that – that’s because the bar is the labour of carpenter Cal Smith who has restored the place to its former glory. That being said, I imagine there’s far more glory here than there’s ever been before. As well as a range of beers from Partizan Brewery, there’s a healthy wine list and on the occasion we visit, a good range of British cheeses. On top of that, Brewer’s sells furniture. As a bar-workshop, the idea is that the range of wrought iron and wooden goodness around you might inspire you to order something a little bigger than a beer or plate of cheese from the bar. Open from 6pm every day, this is a bar worth travelling for, just don’t expect a table on arrival.
