Absolutely oustanding local restaurant. The food is honestly priced as the quality is magnificent, the wine list is excellent and the staff is friendly and professional. Highly recoemmended.

I visited the restaurant a while ago. The steaks and rest of the food were exceptional. The steal platter is well worth the price, particularly the juicy ribeye. However, we were stuck downstairs in the dark, next to a cold and noisy air conditioner.
I've wanted to re-visit recently, just because of the steaks. However both times the owner has been very unwelcoming on the phone. The first time he wouldn't budge at all on table times, even though i said i could i could easily eat in an hour or hour and a half. I don't really want a 6.30 meal. The second time was a booking further in advacne for 6 - however i don't think a £50 deposit needs to be paid for 6 people and i don't want to go back downstairs or have to be told to phone the restaurant back to check its ok with them.
After telling my friends they said they when they visited they were effectively told-off by the owner for receiving the wrong food from the waiter!?
I understand that it is a busy restaurant and not everyone can be accommodated, but good food doesn't make up for rudeness. I'll go further affield and pay more for wine at Gaucho.

AWFUL. We booked over a week in advance to introduce two of our London friends to what we thought was a great local restaurant. This was the fourth time we have eaten here and we had the worst experience. This place is deteriorating and I will never return. I called in advance to confirm my reservation and they made a point to tell me 3 times over the phone that we only had 2 hours and needed to leave after that. It is fair to book tables for a certain period of time, but the way in which this was communicated was very rude. We arrived and were sat by the door. It was quite cold but we did not complain about this. We ordered starters, which were good, but the waiter started clearing the table before we were finished. I actually had to ask for my knife and fork back, and for him to put the food back on the table! Our mains were large portions and the food good, but only lukewarm when it arrived on cold plates. We had to ask for the plates to be heated, and they were brought back within 30 seconds only lukewarm. Needless to say, the steaks were stone cold when we were halfway through. We asked if we could heat them and were told off by one of the rudest, most abrupt women I have ever met. I was very offended to be treated in such a manner. I complained to the manager, who repeated exactly what the woman said in the same abrupt manner. The last complaint I had is that one of us ordered a steak well done, and it came out rare in the middle. We noticed this after a few bites and the staff didn't even apologise, just stated in the same ungrateful, unhelpul manner that if we noticed as soon as they brought it out, they would have taken it back. We could have stayed for another 45 mins with another bottle of wine and dessert, but just wanted to get out of there after that. The staff ruined a nice evening for us and I am EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED.

Excellent steak cooked to perfection in an intimate setting. Choose the upstairs dining area with views across the heath. A little pricey but is located in Blackheath so to be expected.
