Poseidon Fish Bar

My wife and I visited the Poseidon on a whim after catching a movie at the Phoenix cinema nearby. Given the unassuming shop front, we weren't expecting greatness, but it was busy, and so we tried our luck, and our luck was good.

We started sharing scallops and prawns. Both dishes were simply presented, the scallops on their shells, the chargrilled prawns (huge!) on salad. Both were cooked perfectly, were clearly spanking fresh, and had a aweetness to them that is rare even at pricier posh restaurants.

We followed with fish and chips - an unjust description if ever there was one. I've been to perhaps 60 chippies throughout London, and none of them have served fish and chips of quite this quality. In terms of the batter and chips, yes - good chips, the batter was typically light, crispy and not greasy as many place manage; but that cod! Thick, juicy, tender, cooked til the flakes were just falling part. 10/10.

We were too full to have desert and didn't get to try any of the wines, but we shall be returning next week despite it being a bit of a trek for us.
