I was sorry to read a couple of negative reviews from other shoppers here but I have to say it's one of my (very few) favourite 'go-to' shops and I visit at least once a week. You'll find a vast range of produce you'll not find anywhere else in this area - vegetables like moringa pods (drumsticks), a huge range of ground spices, seeds, pulses, etc as well as ready-made food such as snacks, samosas, naan, etc. I find the staff are always very friendly and for items that you can also find in the local supermarkets, the prices are lower too.

The store owner just came out today and accused my mum and I spending 30 minutes looking for chillies when we had only been there 5 minutes. He came and took the tray of chillies and said "I'm giving it to my customers." Which were all male. I asked him "what, are we not your customers?" He ignored me, I then asked him if it was because we were women and he just ignored me again.

He then accused my mum of breathing on the chillies and bringing in COVID, we both were wearing masks. My mum only said that the chillies were for her mum as she can't get out, and the man just said, "Is that what your mum taught you?!" Then he said my mum wasn't wearing gloves to pick the chillies, neither were his male customers nor was he. While he was arguing with us, he wasn't keeping to 2 metres or wearing a mask.

The owner clearly has a problem with women in his shop and obviously thinks women should be at home, such a backward thinking. My family have been shopping here for 30 years! Never have we been spoken to like this! Not shopping here again.

Food hall is the best supermarket. Staff are very polite, helpful and friendly.
They stock lots of things you wouldn't find in other places.

I would not recommend customers to buy from Food Hall in Turnpike Lane. On 6.4.21 I visited the shop to buy few items. Unfortunately it started from a member of staff who gave me an unwashed basket to use I objected to take it politely. Then he came back with the basket and I said again :" I prefer not to use a basket."with respect. I replied that :"I am using my own one, thank you". The manager approached me and asked me to use a basket. Then I explained to the manager that I prefer to use my own one. I asked the manager if the use of basket is obligatory and if it is in their policy, he replied yes. Then I asked for a copy. The manager walked away few steps then came back and said I am not going to show you the policy. Then he asked one of his staff to deal with and he said "she is stubborn, I can not deal with her."
Another staff member came in and explained to me that I need to use the basket, he said that women came to the shop and steal. I asked:" do I look like a thief?" After the manager came in and said:"go, go." I had to leave because there was no need for me to carry on explaining that I prefer not to use their unwashed baskets and I would not like to put my items in it. As well the manager was very disrespectful and he did not apology for his injustice towards a woman first and a customer secondly I do my shopping in most of the shops and if the basket is not clean I do not use it I had no such problem ever. Treating a customer accordingly should be the first qualiy of a manger not forcing a customer to get a basket and go against their willing or ask them to leave the shop in disrespectful manner.
