Can't believe Ionc's review- although this was quite old. Just had superb treatment by a professional team that did not cost an arm and a leg. Felt that the service was personnal - unlike some of the larger chains that one could go to. As for costs - everything was up front. They have an excellent choice of frames and a speedy turn around. I received my prescription glasses within days. Would I go again and recommend some one? A resounding YES!

I have used Ann and Gareth for several years and was also astonished at the bad review. They certainly know their professional responsibilities and in addition are both kind and pleasant. I have been seriously ill and they have gone out of their way to ensure that my contact lenses are delivered to my home becuase I am not always able to get to their premises.

I am really surprised by the negative review, I have used this practice for about eight years and always found all if the people that work there friendly and helpful, I recently used one of the big chains and am about to head back to the barbican eye centre because the service was so much better. They are slightly more expensive for contact lenses than the big chain, but all of the examinations I have had there have been very in depth and have either been part of the contact lens fee or perfectly reasonably priced. My partner has also used them for years, has quite complex eye issues and would be reluctant to go elsewhere now.

A very small practise near Barbican that I went as this appears to one associated with NHS and I was referred.

The optician I had was very unprofessional, patronising and unethical. He forced me to have an eye examination even though I said I would prefer to have a think about it and come back on another day. He charged excessively.

Before an examination even took place(thus not knowing whether my eyes have problems), he said he would definitely refer me to an eye doctor, but only on the condition that I pay for an examination. He charges about 3 times more than another optician I went to in Liverpool Bishopsgate which was much bigger and the people there much more professional.

In the middle of the examination, he suddenly said he needed to charge an additional GBP30 for a so-called special examination. It turned out that the so called 'special examination' was merely that he placed me in front of a screen and took a computer game like test for 8 minutes. I have done exactly the same examination with another optician before who only charged me GBP15 for the full examination (including the normal and special examination). He charges 4 times more.

The optician there had been extremely unprofessional and money-sucking. It appears that this optique does not have much business and they are desperate to get money, even if it means through unethical means.

It was very intimidating to be in the room with the optician, he kept me there for a long time and basically lectured me that his time was valuable (though I did politely asked him to cut his advice short as I didn't need it!) and when I complained about the fees (which was really excessive!) he went on to lecture that it was a fee for his professional time.

Totally unethical, unprofessional, and money sucking! They should be struck off completely from the NHS list.
