I first went to this shop when they were having a Closing down sale. This was in 1991. Nice to see it is still going. The coat I bought is still wearable.

My wife & passed by the shop, which had just closed, on a Friday night recently. I saw shoes that I liked in the window & they were reduced in price. We visited the shop the following Monday & were warmly welcomed & had a general conversation with Leonard & his wife, both of whom were very pleasant to talk to. Leonard was someone whom I instantly took a liking to. I tried on a coat & jacket, but decided not to purchase them. No pressure at all to purchase anything, but I chose to purchase the shoes. This is one of those all too rare shops where customers are treated right. I will return there

My wife and I visited this shop whilst down from from Scotland. I found both the owner, Leonard and his wife very helpful. I left with 2 pairs of shoes at a very favourable price. I was asked to try on a number of tweed items but never at any time felt pressurised or uncomfortable. I will definately visit again when back in London.

Teach staff how to talk with customers and able to react when they don't buy things.
At their store near Monument I visited with my friend a we both tried suits and agreed to buy it as well. In the end I requested for another pair of trousers and when I was told that it will cost me 100 quid whereas the entire suit was for 199. I said that I can only pay 40 for the trouser. After listening this we were both told by the sales person that he is now going home as it is getting late. We both were humiliated and had to leave the store.
I won't recommend to even walk in this store.

I've visited Leonard Jay on 2 separate occasions and each time had a great experience. Always patient and willing to listen to what I wanted. There never seems to be any pressure and I really like the little words of wisdom how to wear jackets and suite. I'll be going again.

At Christmas my partner and I were in holborn after visiting the Museum. We walked past 'Leonard Jay' and noticed the window display had Harris Tweed,(one of my partners favourite brands)I suggested we had a quick look. As soon as we walked through the door, the shop assistant (An older lady) continuously interegated us with personal questions... there was no hello or welcome, her attitude was very abrupt and she said the shop was closing for lunch and that we needed to leave. (she even opened the door) We were stunned at her behaviour so we left shocked by her rudeness. We will never go bac

I have been going to Leonard Jay for about 7 years now and can honstly say that I have had a superb service from all the staff over the years. I find them to be extremely helpfull and knowlegable. They have gone out of their way to help me and there have been occassions, when they have not had what I was looking for in stock. They have then ordered those items and when they have them, they have contacted me to let me know that the goods are in for me to see. It is rare to get such a high level of service. I would recommend them to anyone.

On Monday 12th September (12.15pm) my boyfriend and I went into the Jay Leonard shop on Southampton Row. In the window was a sign saying ‘closing down Sale’. Before I proceed, I should explain I am a five foot, Asian woman and my boyfriend a Caucasian American. The lady who assisted my boyfriend was helpful in making suggestions to him. When my boyfriend and I discussed whether to purchase a Tweed jacket, the assistant interrupted and in a patronising tone said to me, “You do know this is Harris Tweed, you won’t get it cheaper elsewhere”. I agreed. The assistant then came into my physical space, and with a raised voice said “I can see your not seriously looking towards buying” and then asked me not to touch anymore jackets. My response to her was, we were discussing purchasing a jacket. My boyfriend watched baffled, by her behaviour and tone towards me. The assistant then told me, “My customers always know what they want and don’t need to look around.” She then opened her shop door and told me to get out. My boyfriend followed, expressing concern and wanted to go back and challenge the assistant. I decided against it.
This incident continued to trouble me, so I decided to go back and express my concerns in person. On Wednesday 14th September at 10.35am. I requested to speak to the owner/manager. The assistant who had previously served me said “I remember you” and informed me she was the owner of the shop, Mrs Leonard. Present also was also a tall male assistant. I attempted to speak to Mrs Leonard, to express my concerns regarding my previous visit. Once again, she came into my physical space, and in an aggressive, dismissive tone, would not let me speak, denying the exchange as it had happened. She then responded by saying “it’s up to me who I decide to let in or serve”. Her assistant then joined in saying, why are you here, it’s not like we are offering you a job, so leaveI was shocked but no longer surprised by this response, feeling a bit intimidated and left.
