Marks & Spencer is now a world famous department store selling everything from clothes and home furnishings to food. The clothes are very reasonably priced, while the food is predominantly known for their ready-prepared meals. This is one of their flagship stores. It also houses Cafe Revive, personal shoppers and a customer service lounge.

Marks & Spencer at High Street Kensington is in a clear process of tesconization. Now, some genius decided to block an already crowded shop with self service machines. They had a few before, what was fine. But recently it seems that they fired 2/3 of their staff at tills and replaced them by machines, expecting customers who pay more than average supermarkets at M&S to work for them. Now the customers have to do a job that was previously done by its staff. Besides, it's more difficult to walk in the shop now with all those self service tills in the way. The thing is, if M&S is going down this road but keeps the price of its more elegant past, what is the point of going there. If their service is that bad now, why bother to buy there? Would you go to a restaurant that has good food but horrible service? I wouldn't.
PS. the cheap, horrendous Christmas decoration tells a lot about the new M&S

I want to congratulate the staff in your 'Meals to Go or Stay' Department. My Husband and I came to London to go to the Albert Hall, we are 79 years old and were very cold. We had been looking for a restaurant for a meal but did not want Indian or Italian, in fact we did not know where to go.We were browsing in your food hall and spotted the picture with the bowl of soup, then we saw the burgers, we don't eat them normally but we felt if they were M&S they must be good. We have not been to a fast food outlet before and the young lady on Till 520 2100 helped us. The soup was served first and when we had finished the burgers and chips were cooked fresh. We were offered plates but we decided to do what other people were doing and go in with the fingers. Another lady was also very helpful I think she may have been a Supervisor. We really enjoyed
the food and the experience. We visited on Friday 20th November at 16.44pm.
