I use this Post Office for convenience as I send a lot of letters and parcels for work several times a week. I have been overcharged on 3 occasions now and the error was only corrected when I pointed it out. Staff take their time and try and sell you every other service offered by The Post Office each visit even as a regular.
Response from Ajay Manager
I am shocked that you are claiming we have overcharged you on posting services. If you think you were overcharged why didn't use raise it with us at the time of posting? You may not be aware, but the post office does have a contract with royal mail to ensure that mail is properly priced. If it is not, the item would be delayed and possibly the receiver would be surcharged. We have a price list that is the same in every single post office for mailing. Feel free to pick one up from us. We also have a team from our head office who continually monitor standards in our branch and mail is randomly selected by royal mail to ensure it is correctly priced. To date we have had 3 random checks and have passed all of them. As regards your other comment about trying to sell you other services and products. We are merely letting you know of other products and services that the post office does. You only have to tell us that you are not interested and we will stop.

When it is open its okay, not too friendly but then post offices don't seem to be that friendly places anyway. But its closed early on two Saturdays over the last three weeks with no sign to say why. First on the day after Halloween and now today. I visited at 4.30 the first time, today at 4.50. I'm waiting to find out if anything can be done about this unreliable service. Otherwise its handy to have so near to where i live.

Our opening and closing time are shown on the entrance to our Post Office. We are closed at 2.30pm on Saturdays and open from 9.00am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday. Only in exceptional circumstances such as a death in the family or a road traffic incident would we be closed.

I have used this PO twice in the last fortnight to be misinformed on both occasions. First time they refused to accept my parcels saying they the contents were classed as flammable materials. When I queried it - I post regularly so I'm aware of what I can send - they double-checked and of course I was right. Yesterday I was told that Signed For only provides a signature and is not a tracking service. Doh! Wrong again. In future I'll be using Crofton Park or Forest Hill - a hassle, as Brockley Rise is on my doorstep, but I no longer have any confidence in this particular post office.
Response from MR. GANDHI MANAGER
Hi Lola,
We are sorry that you feel misinformed by us.
You have omitted to let us know what you were posting at the time of your visit. All Post Offices are required, under the dangerous goods act, to ask “For the purpose of safety, can I ask you what is in the parcel?” This question is meant to be asked no matter how regular a visitor you are to us. Assuming you do send something that is restricted, it will be destroyed or delayed by Royal Mail Group if it does not have the proper labelling and a sender address at the back of the parcel. It is therefore in your own interest that we are asking this question.
On your second comment, perhaps we should enlighten you by explaining the difference between a tracked service and a signed for service. For UK , the only tracked postal service is Special Delivery. It offers the certainty of a delivery within a certain time span with compensation if it is lost or delayed. The item sent by Special Delivery is segregated from the normal post and is therefore a fully tracked service. This is in contrast to “Signed For Only” where there is no guarantee of when the item will arrive, lower compensation, and no segregation from the normal post. At any given moment in time between your item being posted and being received, the Royal Mail / Post Office would be able to tell you where your item is whereas with signed for this would not be possible.
We would also like to take the opportunity to correct the closing time of our Post Office on Saturdays. We close at 17.30pm and not at 13.00pm.

Kind regards,
Honor Oak Park Post Office & Staff.
