I at first (which is no surprise) had excellent service from co-operative funeral care is Catford. They couldnt have been nice enough. After listenin to thier rules about when to lay a head stone, what was required, etc.. a year later I had it layed. Two years later the head stone was leaning forward. This happened twice. I took pictures. When questioned on this, they blamed the manager at the cemetary, I wrote to the manager many times and was fobbed off with "We(myself & cemetary manager) are happy with the fitting of the headstone. Asked about the code of conduct, sited with sales & services 82 act, assoc of funeral directors etc...was informed that the catford branch does not belong to this association that many others do!!??
I eventually spoke to a managing director after a year, who eventually discounted the outstanding balance that I had to pay for a headstone that had been down for less that 4 years. The only maintanence I had done was to put flowers on. I still dont know what caused it to lean forward even now but think somebody leant or pushed it on purpose.
That was the second incident with them. The first is when I paid the funeral cost upfront, in whole and because THEY made a mistake tried to pass on a £500 extra bill back to me...I refused to accept, contacted Management and the matter was dropped.
Co -op Funeral care customer service after the inital sale is absoloutly disgusting. I would not use this company for any funeral ever again.
Co-operative Funeral Services provide a full funeral planning service including grave tending. A 24 hour callout service is also available.
