Established in 1810 as an academic publishing house focusing on the works of Swedenborg and related materials. The Swedenborg Society translates, prints and publishes works by the 18th century Swedish scientist, philosopher and visionary, Emanuel Swedenborg.
The Society is based in a Grade II listed building in the heart of Bloomsbury in Central London, just a short walk from the British Museum. The building holds a well-stocked and comfortable bookshop, which sells the complete works of Swedenborg and related books on religion, philosophy, psychology, spirituality. The bookshop also sells fiction partly inspired by his ideas, such as William Blake, Baudelaire, Walt Whitman, Goethe and Dostoevsky.
The Society's own publications include editions of Swedenborg’s works, major reference works related to Swedenborg and editions in foreign languages, including most European and some Asiatic and African languages. It also publishes an annual academic Journal of essays on Swedenborg's ideas and their influence upon philosophy, literature and religion.
