If you've got 30 minutes to waste and don't want to walk the streets or you actually need a book, check out these shops.

With a past filled with travel, the owner of Nomad was bound to focus on that department when she finally opened her Parsons Green book store. However, having grown from strength to strength, Nomad now stocks a great array of fiction, non-fiction, art and travel – not to mention the excellent children’s room at the back of the shop.

Everything a great bookshop should be, with friendly, informative staff and a cafe with generously cut cake! I loved the handwritten notes tucked into the books, and there is a great children's room which was holding a busy storytime session when I went. This is separated from the rest of the shop and cafe so there's plenty of space for browsing, reading and tucking into their speciality banana and nutella loaf! Recommended.

My ideal bookshop. Lovely atmosphere, can buy yourself a book and a cake and just sit and read for an hour or so. The staff were very friendly. The handwritten book reviews were very helpful. I will definitely be going back.

I love Nomad Books. I live in Clapham but travel over to Fulham specifically to go to Nomad Books. It is a very civilised bookshop, providing excellent service and an opportunity to look at interesting books over a cup of tea and a bun.

I come across books at Nomads that I do not see elsewhere and I am always interested in the selection of newly published books, and other books of particular note, assembled in the shop. The handwritten reviews of individual books are the icing on the cake.
