Sadly the proprietors have given up smoking in their shop (since the recent legislation) but the ledger remains hand written, and the selection of books ( if you are passionate about 20th century British writing in its first printed edition or even rarer private press runs) is extraordinary. Right at the top end of scholarship, and prices - so anyone not a hardened book obsessive should stay away from the badly lit interior, cavernous basement, quietly spoken owners. Things less than the price of a good bottle of wine are downstairs.
