The Royal Marsden Hospital was founded in 1851 by Dr. William Marsden who wanted to research into the study and treatment of cancer. In 1948, the hospital became part of the NHS (National Health Service) as a teaching hospital. It became the first hospital in the NHS to receive The Queens award for Technology for Drug Development, and continues today to investigate into the complexities of cancer.
