Dorney Lake is an artificially created rowing lake located in the small village of Dorney (near Windsor and Eton). No public money has been used for the creation of the lake, since it is privately owned and financed by Eton College – they have spent £17 million developing it over the past 10 years or so. Although primarily for use by the school, the facilities can also be used by the rowing, canoeing and triathlon community. In 2012, the lake will be used as an Olympic Venue. Rowing and canoe/kayak flatwater events will take place there. 20,000 seats will be included for the Games, although most of these will be temporary to be dismantled following the end of the Games.
