| About ExCeL London: | Situated in the Royal Docks area of the redeveloped Docklands, the Excel Exhibition Centre offers large amounts of floor space as well as function rooms, shops, bars and hotels. The ExCel centre has become increasingly popular since its opening in 2000 and now plays host to a vast array of major exhibitions and sporting events all year round.
In the 2012 Olympics the centre is expected to be a significant venue as several sporting events are to be played out there.
The building consists of two rectangular halls of 32,500 square metres each, but they can be divided into smaller halls. Although other venues might be closer to airports and central London, the fact that the DLR stops right inside the centre means it is easily accessible by public transport.
The short form ‘ExCel’ was taken from the phrase ‘Exhibition Centre London’. |
