About Fitzroy House:Fitzroy House in the heart of London's Fitzrovia district dates back to 1791. At first glance you wouldn't distinguish this house from the other Georgian terraces that surround it, but Fitzroy House is well-known for its former inhabitants. The house has been both a home and a workplace to many famous names over the course of history. Famous artists and writers such as Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw, H.G. Wells, George Orwell, Charles Dickens and Virginia Woolf all made it their home at various times. In the 1950s, L. Ron Hubbard, writer and founder of Scientology, worked at Fitzroy House for almost three years before buying an estate in Sussex called Saint Hill Manor which remains the Scientology movement's British headquarters to this day. The interior of Fitzroy House has been completely restored over recent years such that the public can now see Hubbard’s office and communications room, as well as various glass display cases of photographs and manuscripts. In the Library, a great number of his published works are displayed. Fitzroy House is open to the public, however please note this is by appointment only.
