Goldsmiths Technical and Recreative Institute was founded in 1891 by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths. The institute was designed around the need for training in the Artisan and technical fields of industry. Located in the Former Royal Naval School- the College can still be found here today.
Goldsmiths has been part of the University of London for more than a century. Despite being established for this length of time- Goldsmiths is still expanding at a fantastic rate. Controversial architect, Will Alsop has designed a new, large scale Arts Centre to be named the Ben Pimlott building.
The unique nature of Goldsmiths has attracted a diverse range of students. More than 10% are from outside Europe and over 50% have returned to study at Goldsmiths after a break from full-time education. The College also offers a wide and popular range of evening and part-time courses. Perhaps unusually for such a creative College- Goldsmiths has an expansive and successful sports history.
