I am thinking about going for a night at the dogs and wondered whether any of you have any recommendations about it for a group of work mates? I'd like to go to the wimbledon stadium as it's nearer to where we all work. Who's been and enjoyed it? Would you recommend booking in the restaurant?

Hello there,

I went along to Wimbledon dogs a couple of times over the last year to the Mick the Miller end. It is definitely good fun (following a couple of drinks) but isn't what I'd call a cultured night out! The restaurant there was not great in terms of quality, but certainly adequate (mainly burgers, nuggets, etc..). I'd say it's a great place as long as your expectations aren't too high.

Hope you win lots of cash!

Hi Helen,

I've been to the Dogs where you are suggesting and it was great fun. We just did the cheap option where everyone just paid about £20 and you got 1 free bet, a free drink and then "scampi/chicken in a basket". Not amazing food, but to be honest you will mostly be wanting to have a few drinks and be placing bets all the time anyway, that the food was ideal. There is a nicer part you can sit in, which is obviously more expensive. Where we were was with all of the regulars, but good fun anyway!

I've been to the wimbledon stadium before. It was a good night, especially as I managed to leave with winnings Cool Dude

As the other posts have said don't expect plush surroundings like you'd get at Royal Ascot and don't expect Gordon Ramsey style food and you'll enjoy it.

Cheers,

Yes, we had a work outing there too. There are loads of nice pubs that do good food in Wimbledon. I'd recommend starting your evening there if you want to eat properly, then move onto the stadium. We were a group of 10, but I suppose it was a much larger group you might want to use the stadium restaurant facilities to save hassle.

The stadium's website offers a good value punter's package (must pre-book online) which gives you admission, 2xdrinks vouchers and 2x£2 betting vouchers for a fiver. A bargain as I think regular admission is £5.50 anyway.
