Hi Guys,

I am planning to relocate to London to work in central London EC3M.
I used to live in london few years ago.

now my questions are :

1. in brief would u go and live north, south, east, west or center of London? I appreciate a general comment about each area
I have heared east is not very safe as there are loads of gangs.

2. do u think with budget of £700 pcm i can get a 1 bedroom flat in anywhere in London that is close to EC3M and is safe?

3. if u were me where would u have gone?

i should consider the train or bus cost as I have to travel to work everyday if i leave far from EC3M

thanks

The only question I can answer there is you MIGHT be able to get a studio flat for that money.

Linux44, have you tried looking on Gumtree for accommodation information? On London Gumtree you should be able to get a good idea of how realistic your budget is for a one-bedroom flat. EC3M is a long way from the safest Boroughs in London (Richmond & Kingston) so you may need to trade-off safety against travel time and costs.

Have you seen this? http://www.allinlondon.co.uk/boroughs/comparisons.php It gives some headline stats for each London Borough so that could be quite useful if you're trying to weigh up some options. If you hover over the Borough it gives you the absolute figures too.

You can't sum up north, south, east and west easily as obviously every borough has pockets of wealth, deprivation, rough parts, trendy streets, etc.. I used to work in EC3M and commuted in from Clapham and then from St Johns Wood/Kilburn... both were good places to be, although some parts of Kilburn are less nice. To get more for your money East tends to be best and if you steer clear of tube stations all the better, as areas around the overland tend also to be better value - don't know too much about the East, but had a friend who live close to Nunhead station which is very good for getting into City Thameslink/Farringdon/Blackfriars which is presumably where you'll be working with that postcode? Nunhead seemed to be predominantly residential and seemed relatively quiet and safe as well as very good value for money.

Good luck!
