Where to live in London?

Hi All,

Myself & my partner plan on making the huge leap (45 mins across the pond, to be precise ;) ) from Dublin to London come April 2012 when we are finished Uni. Both of us have been here several times before, and loved it every time, so it seemed only natural to make the decision to live & work here. :D

However, the only drawback to our potential dream is the prohibitive cost of renting. Having trawled through the various websites and seen the huge cost of rents, we are at a loss as to where to live and what constitutes a 'reasonable' price for starter accommodation while we are both looking for permanent jobs (will be taking any low paid work to keep us going in the meantime whilst living off our savings). Ideally we'd like to live in Zone 2, 1 bed or studio, near to a tube/good bus route for £450 a month. Is this at all possible, if not, how far out would one have to commute for it? Preferably we're aiming to live within 45 mins of Central London. Tips or advice on what our best options would be? As long as the Areas relatively quiet, clean and pleasant we ain't too fussy.

Thanks!

I live in zone 4 and I'm 20 minutes away from central London. Am pretty sure your hopes for £450 in zone 2 are ambitious. Don't be put off by zones further out - you can still get to the hustle and bustle easily and live in a nice place.

Agreed, you can get out as far as the M25 in 30 minutes on a train, it's not much different to a tube journey and you'll have a huge range of accommodation options :)
